I found some awesome spalted maple wood while helping a friend at his sawmill. There was a spalted maple burl in his scrap pile that I thought might look good in a pen. After stabilizing the wood and making some pen blanks, I was amazed at the beauty of the blanks. Unfortunately I only have enough blanks to make a limited number of pens, but the ones I have made have turned out awesome! The photo in the listing is of the first pen I made. The other pens are similar (just as beautiful), but not identical due to unique variations in the wood. The metal components of this pen come with a beautiful gold finish and use standard Cross Pen refills. Everyone I show them to say that they are absolutely gorgeous.
This pen is the perfect gift! If you are giving this beautiful pen as a gift you might want to add a custom pen box with your recipients name engraved on the lid (which is held in place with two magnets). There is no additional cost for custom engraving on the lid. Even if you are purchasing it for yourself, it is nice to have a custom box. I make four box variations: Black Walnut lids and Light Cherry, Dark Cherry, Oak, Paduk or Purple Heart bases (subject to availability). I have both light and dark cherry bases in stock (light bases are shown in the photos) so I give you the option to get the lighter colored ones, or the darker ones.
All the boxes look really nice and are a great way to add value to your special gift.
